what is the 4th picture down? Can't make heads or tails of where it is. As for the shackle and the frame mount, you can still get then from Ford.

I had the weld break on my shackle, words cannot discribe how weird it feels to hit a bump with the rear corner being held up by only a shock. I just rewelded it and 5 years later it is still doing great.

But what happened there is the actual part that is riveted to the frame rust so bad that it breaks. Mine broke like that when I was going around a corner and sounded like I had something in the bed flying around.

ya I had a shackle break on me a week before I graduated Wyotech. It was pretty loud lol, and mine are flipped so it automatically hit the bed, my hanger was still alright though, the shackle snapped right by the spring eye bolt. I put about 300 miles on it before I changed it..it was strange because the ride height and ride didn't change at all.

I didn't have the shackle brake on mine, I broke the eye of the leaf. My leaf hopped out past the bushing and shifted my right rear wheel back about 4 inches. This happened when I hit a pothole on a busy road doing 70km/h, My truck nearly went into a fishtail and I nearly hit the car on my left because of it, and to make matters worse, it was a cop car. I pulled into the nearest parking lot, and looked at the damage, and ya, it wasn't as bad as what happened to yours with the bed, but it did chew up the front mount quite good. "New" junkyard leaves (both sides, as the other one the eye broke, but didn't hop out of the bushing). A new front bracket (also junkyard), and I was good to go, I also decided that I would do the shackle flip while I was in there.

I thought I has some bad rust here in Alberta with all the salt they put down on the roads in the winter. I'm going to take a wild guess and say you live in the east. I see that on a lot of the cars I see comign in for Out Of Provence inspections from the east. I don't think I've seen any that bad though. Have fun with your project, and might I suggest (if you arn't already doing so), painting it and then spraying some rubberized undercoating on it. Not fool proof, but its better then nothing.

shackle or hanger?

so was it the shackle or the spring hanger that went first? my spring hangers are about to go but im replacing both of them within the next month. and also the shackles most likely

ya I'd just do it all at once if I were you.

yeah because if your hangers are bad then shackles cant be much better, its cheap anyway.

Also if your truck still has the rivets i have found using a grinder to wear down the mushroomed part and then drilling the rest of the way out with a lot of oil works the best.

If your good with a set of torches then use those.
