Ok, I was rewiring the speakers in my truck and 4x4 lights started blinking. I unhooked the battery for 10 minutes and plugged it back in and it was blinking still. I did the manual hub mod so I push the hub to engage it by the way. I noticed the passenger side was engaged and it wouldn't disengage so I removed the hub and it was really dirty. (I have cleaned only this side many times before). So I cleaned it and put it back in and I could engage and disengage it now. The 4x4 was still blinking so I turned my truck off, put it in 4hi and turned the truck back on and the light came on as if it was working again and I drove it around but I could tell it wasn't working. So I turned my truck off, put it in 4lo, and turned it back on, drove it around and it definitely wasn't working. So I turn the truck off, put it in 2wd, turn the truck on, and the lights start blinking again. What gives? I don't know what to do can someone please give some suggestions?

More than likely a bad shift motor. The hubs not working won't cause the lights to flash unless there is an electrical problem with the vacuum solenoid that engages them, which shouldn't be an issue if you engaged them manually. Sounds like the t/case isn't shifting.

Thanks. Do I have to take out the whole transfer case to replace the shift motor?

Nope. It's mounted right on the back of the case. 4 bolts and some wire swapping from the old connector into the new one. You should be able to do it in about 1/2 an hour the first time. Seems weird that it happened while you were working on speaker wiring though. Did you have the radio out and maybe unplug the switch or damage any wiring?

I didn't take it out until after they started blinking. I think the weird part is it says its engaged but it isn't. I'll check the connections, maybe clean them and if that doesn't do it I'll get a new part.
