Well..it started off like any other day. Had b-fast..met Matt in austin. Came home..crashed on the couch for 1/2 hour. woke up and couldn't move my right side. WTF? I went to the emergency room at 6 am, and they started running all kinds of tests on me. Turned out i had a small stroke. DAMN. Again? this happened to me back in 02, but I didn't take care of myself. Thought it would just "go away". So, I'm sure we have some Diabetics on here...so take my advice..TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!!! THIS DISEASE IS DANGEROUS!! iT WAS A WAKE-UP CALL FOR ME! I can't see living my life being dependent on others for everyday things. Im not back to 100% yet, but I'm hoping it'll get better. I still cant move my right hand/arm fully, but the Dr. said it'lltake time Just wanted to pass this along. Take care of yourselves, and don't take life for granted.

I'm a diabetic myself, have been for 23 years, and have really been working hard to get my blood sugars in control,(my last hba1c was 6.7). I had a visit with the kidney Dr. 2 weeks ago and he said to keep the blood sugars down and keep the blood pressure down as well. I'm glad your doing better, but like you say, keep things in check. Diabetes can be a nasty problem or you can live a fairly healthy life(just like old wilford says, "check your blood sugars and check them often".) Good luck, I know how hard it is to maintain.....

I'm Diabetic HBP and high Chloresteral (or how ever you spell it), have neurapathy of the feet, had to have a metal plate removed in my right ankle due to this miserable disease, that is why the Doc's won't operate on my back, healing time is to long. 3 1 inch incisions in my leg took over 4 months to heal.

My last hb1ac was 7.1 and I average in the mornings 167

Was it a major stroke or a mini (TIA) stroke?

i, too am a diabetic. (type 2, controlled) thanks for the eye opener. i'm also your age, HT. so, this kind of made me sit up and take notice.

wow, hope you get better :icon_thumby:
i am also a diabetic type 1 (insulin Dependant), i have been for the past 4 1/2 years... so i am kinda new to this i am only 17 years old, and my sugars are really getting out of hand... they are either 17+ or below 3.5 and if i go low it is always during the night and when at "bedtime" my sugars are really high:dntknw:
so i am getting nervous now, i got to try and get more exercise and eat the right things, but it is hard to change after you do things for so many years and then you have to change everything.

got a question: when you guys go low during the night do you guys wake up or do your "wives/girlfriends" have to give you a glucagon shot? i have luckly not had to have one i always wake up out of a dead sleep.
and how do you guys feel when you go low???

Sorry to hear this. I hope you recover soon.

I worked with a guy who retired on disability because he was a diabetic and didn't take care of himself. He had a lot of problems with his feet and I believe the last I heard he had an amputation done. As I said though, he didn't take care of himself as well as he could have.

Those of you who are just now being faced with it need to take it serious and always keep things in check.

My cousin is diabetic(sp?). And she went into a coma one day when she got home after work. She was alone in her appartement for several hours before anyone found her. Shes 28 and now shes got the mental capacity of a 4 year old because of brain damage caused by the coma. I dont know what all the details are but its pretty bad.

I hope that everythings alright with you.
