o.k. I am doing a clutch replacement on my 93' ranger. I twisted the tranny around and heaved on it and it came out with alot of struggle.. but it came out :yahoo: Now after replacing the clutch and time to get the tranny back in there turns out to be a pain. anyone does this before and have some tips and tricks . thnx guys

use some vasoline.

I assume that you did not remove the y-pipe? You don't have to in order to remove/install the trans, (i've done lots of them without removal of the pipe) although it does make it easier........

Other than a little wiggling/jiggling (and maybe some cursing) you should be able to get it in there.

yes I did leave the Y pipe in. I turned it and found this magic position that got it out. and now i can not get it back over the y pipe. i have lifted the tranny so many times now i and ready to push the truck off a cliff. anyone know or remember the postion they had it in when putting it back in.

First, take a sawzal or other cutting implement and cut that big seam where the firewall and floor panels meet so that you can bend it over in 2-3" wide increments. Then go at it with a BFH. My preferred hammer is a 4lb sledge. This will make it get back up there with considerably less effort.

I did hammer on it and folded it over. but if i cut it and bend it over more will that give me the clearance I need to get over the Y pipe?

If this is the M5OD, I usually tip the tail end up, get the top of the bellhouding past the body seam, then turn it counter clockwize so the starter housing barely gets past the turn in the Y pipe.

A lot of wiggling and swearing helps too.

All my rbv's have had their body seams beatn flat with a sledge as well...

o.k. thanx so much guys!!!! I am going to beat the snot of that seam and go ape shit on the transmission and hope it goes in!!!!

IIRC I think I slid the bottom of my M5OD over the exhaust and then tipped the top up. But it may have been the other way around as mentioned above.

The top has to go in first an looking from the back of the trans you may need to turn it clockwise a little bit. Use a pry bar or something similar to get it over the exhaust. I do it at least once a week.

I recomend pounding on the hump right before seam as well, it helped me
