at one point in my career I serviced card punchers and readers.

before that it was ticker-tape units in the Army. I still a baggie of dots someplace. (45 year old baggie, oops!)

Show and tell for the grand kids? Why would you be holding onto a baggy of punch card dots?

Could those dots be classified as "Chad"? As in the infamous hanging chads from an election a few years ago?

Is there a black market for this material?

actually they are ticker-tape dots, the last itineration before they went obsolete.
they are from a big comm center on Okinawa. everything in that building was classified top secret, even the chad from the tapes.
there was an incinerator attached to the building, all paper no matter what was burned daily.
unfortunately it was a low tech incinerator, throw it in and watch stuff burn.
also unfortunately the ashes had to be checked, couldn't let the Russians or Chinese find out what we listened to.
which meant to speed things up we had to stir the fire. yep, grab a big 'ol long iron rake and stroke it until it drooped. (damn it got hot)
being a cockey young soldier one day I walked out with some t-s stuff, a bag of dots.
had them up until a few years ago, not sure if I still have them.


being bored as all hell with this lockdown, maybe it's a good time to count my dots.
