I took one of my sons to the local scrap yard to buy a 2.8 engine for his Bronco2 and he went under to take the drive shafts off so that the engine and transmission can be pulled as a unit. While under there he called up to me that he couldn't figure out what it took to take the drive shaft off. Now as my user name notes, I am somewhat crippled so I was unable to get under the Bronco2 with him to see what he was facing so I am asking if anyone would be so kind as to tell me what it takes to pull the drive shafts out of an 85 Bronco2 with the FM145 trans. He said he thinks that the front bolts might be a Torx type.
Thanks in advance!

Im not sure but the front should be a 10mm or 3/8 socket ihavent pulled mine for awhile but im pretty sure thats it, not torx unless someone changed them out.

ur actually wrong there buddy, FACTORY bolt is a torx bit, its a mother ****er, if they have been changed then they will be a small bolt. no other way around it, have a nice set of torx bits and go at it

The rear takes a 12 mm 12 point. In the junkyard, I pulled a shaft that was re made in '98, and used a box wrench, but when I tried to take my old one out at home, I couldn't get them with just the wrench because mine were still loctited, so a wrench, shallow socket, a breaker bar and a torch to soften loctite and you should be okay. Save all the bolts off the junkyard one so if any get chewed up you have replacements.

Yeah mine was a 12point bolt, but managed to get it off and on with a regular 6pt socket.

12 point 12mm. Try to find one with extra long handle for more torque. Good luck. They are tough.

yeah, the torqx bits for the front SUCK.....you'll most likely strip them when you go to take them out.
