I discovered something.... interesting about Ranger frames....

How do you do that?

Read the WHOLE sentance and work out the syntax

The engine didn't START the trip in the cab, but the jackass thought a couple of cheap (made-in-china) 1" ratchet straps would keep it in the middle of the bed, he hit something and the Ranger STOPPED, the engine (and Olds V8) took quite a bit longer to do so...

Other than the fact that the headgate was torn out of the bed the bed was fine, the cab? Ahhhh.... No.

Man - that reminds me of a safety video I had to watch at work on welding gas cylinders. This one dude had an acetelyne cylinder rolling around in the back of his truck. The valve got knocked off and the cylinder came through the bed, through the back of the cab, through the firewall, took out the intake, through the rad then went 1/4 mile up the road!!! Scary.

you guys are the best !
my freind dad bought a 1999 with 100,000 on it mint shape .
he payed 4000.00 for it, 2 months later the frame cracked in the rear . and im buying it for 200.00, thanks to a garage telling him you can weld a frame .

now that i read this i just have to bolt another back end on .

I thought these were 1 peace like my 95

THANKS SO MUCH THIS WILL BE SIMPLE TO FIX

Huh...........

Yes, I'll be using an Explorer 5.0AWD T-case, but this t-case WILL NOT bolt to the Ranger transmission I'll be using.
I DO NOT want a V8, V8 is "too thirsty".
a 4.0 or a 2.3turbo OTOH....
BTW, a 1993 Cab is going on this frame. AD

Your lookin to build a AWD Supercab Longbed for "Off Road" purposes, that will take half a football field to turn around in, and your worried bout havin a "thirsty" V8:icon_twisted:..............

As far as usin a 93 cab on a 98 up frame, not sure the cab mounts will not have to moved/modified, as I know that 98up are 4" deeper than 97 back, but unsure of the Supercabs.:dunno:

When I found this out on my 99, my first thought was how EASY it would be to back-half one of these trucks...........don't have to cut the frame, just drill out or grind off the rivets, and roll you back-half kit right into place, and if it was me, I'd make the back-half kit bolt right into place via the 8 rivet points per side for ease of repair.:icon_idea:

DEFINITELY take pics AD!:icon_cheers:

Supercabs are the same, its only the regular cab that got changed for the 1998 switch-up.

Acetylene? No. lotta flames but there isn't enough pressure inside one to make it move much, and if the stuff decomposes inside the cylinder it simply explodes.

FULL Oxygen cylinder? 2200psi through a 1/2" hole?

That's 1000lbs of thrust against a 125# cylinder....
8Gs of acceleration for nearly a second...

I was present when an accident occoured with a 6K nitrogen cylinder...
that sucker went more than half a mile...

this wasn't any "bounce up the road" it went OVER a railroad
drawbridge 1/4 mile from it's departure point.

Some people read what they want to read not what is written.

Read the entire topic again and correct your post.

I NEVER said I was building it for "offroad" purposes
I said what it was being built for but... a long range cruiser.

I've got a 95gallon fuel tank that fits PERFECTLY in the front of a long bed,
and another tank (larger than my current setup) thtt will fit behind the axle...
in a long bed... people thought my current tank system is crazy

This is being built on a 1993 because that's the body (and title) I have
and a gen3 is a bit more aerodynamic than a Gen1 or Gen2

It's all about RANGE.

And I doubt 6" of wheel base is gonna make it turn that much wider.

131" Vs 125" ain't all that bad, it's a 4.8% difference.
Just how often do YOU turn the steering to the locks on an interstate?

As for your thought on cargo placement?
frankly if you are in a collision and your payload is anywhere
else it ends up against the headgate (and in one case where a guy was hauling an engine INSIDE the cab) SUDDENLY and it's far better/safer
for it to already BE there WHEN you have an accident.

Unless you do the unusual and gripe down your load.

My question for you Allan, is the cost of fuel that much cheaper to you locally that it necessitates the carrying of an extra 75gallons weight worth of fuel? Just throwin it out there..... I wouldn't mind haulin more fuel, but I'm thinking along the lines of a BII tank and a smaller inner frame tank to make room for the doubler setup.

i have seen the current setup and i agree with this statement

and there is a good reason for the need for range , though i still find your plan a little crazy

i wish i could get fuel as cheap as he does

AllanD is just preparing for when MadMax 2 becomes a reality...only with a Ranger and not a Falcon..

95 gallons of fuel...an extra 900lbs worth of cargo...isn't that hurting your economy a titch?
