Found this Quiksteel plastic repair kit at autozone for $19. Thought I'd give it a try.
First layer with mesh for strength
One more layer after that and ready to slip the new gas hose on. Let it sit for 24 hours and appears to be a good solid repair. We'll see.
Instead of a blow dryer form the bathroom, I borrowed this heat gun from work. On hi this thing will blow 300F air. Softens up the rubber will sweet.
So with wd-40 as the lubricant and some patience I was able to get the new hose on within 30 minutes. Got 24" of 2" hose from carquest for $3. Actually had to take it off once cause I goofed. Put it back on. I was real suprised it went over the tank month that easy. Here's the final results.
While uploading these I noticed a pic I took of the old one and it looks like I put the fill nozzle on to far into the hose. Gonna have to look into that next.
Anyway the grunt work is done and appears to be the fix. Total of $13 and about 4 hours of free labor.
different lengths. Once tried to change my fill neck on my old longbed with a shortbed fill neck, way different. If you've noticed, the fuel doors are in different spots on the beds. The shortbed fuel door is right next to the end of the bed, while the longbed fuel door is a few inches farther back.
Zman, that's what I figured out to. I've been rubber necking the last 2 days. For every ranger in the 90's I noticed just what you said. The door is inches from the front of the bed verses the longer bed.
