So.. at least in PA, duct tape is not a legal repair since it’s classed as a “temporary” repair. However, if you spray paint the duct tape after using it, it becomes classed as a “permanent“ repair and is now legal.

I don’t think it has to be painted, just color matching. Can slap some white duct tape over a hole in your white facia and be good to go.

I was told that paint is required for it to be a permanent repair according to PA by more than one or two shops. I actually used to have a copy of the inspection stuff years ago. The aluminum tape stuff doesn’t require paint, but cloth duct tape does. A sidebar though, painted duct tape does last longer. I’ve been down this road before, the paint seems to seal and protect the tape from weathering.

tape on the leading edge of wings is an allowed repair to let you get the plane home. its in one of the books they give you in a&p school. man, i have been trying to think of he name of the book because its the oddball one that shows all the extra things not covered in the airframe, powerplant, or general books but i cannot think of it. i even tried to find it in my mechanic's handbook but thats at home, instead of here at work.

I'm gonna be honest, welding in metal is temporary too in my opinion. It's just going to rust out again around your patch. That's another reason I don't like doing rust repair unless you're restoring a classic car or something. On someones daily or work vehicle it's just a waste of time. That's why I do custom interiors full time now, I was tired of my work not being fulfilling.

we have them on base as the unit trucks. fleet white electric f150s with base interior and steelie wheels

Did the base install ample charging capacity for overnight? I can see EV trucks being practical for daily local services but not for companies or agencies that have to range 100's of miles a day.
