I was checking out Summits site yesterday and came across the Hypertech module for the 2.9, but it says it's only good for 87-89's? Whats the deal, I thought 86's would be the same, is there a difference in the computers? And is it really worth it anyway? All I was looking at doing was opening up the exhaust a bit and slapping in a K&N and thought that the hypertech might work well with a basically stock motor.

ive been wondering that myself for some time, if anyone has any input throw it up cause i got one layin around from a parts truck a while back, just dont want to take the waterproof coating off the pins if it aint gonna do shit for me

Got an email back from Hypertech, apparently the computers between 86's and 87's are different and the module will not work on 86's. That leaves the question, can you swap a computer from an 87 into an 86?

Running one now...weather it is a true 87' IDK.....but I pull a emc from my donor,it is a87' from the sticker on the drivers side door....I dropped it in a 86' no wiring changes or anything ...strickly plug and play. It was one of those situtation where I wasn't sure if that was a problem or not...did the swap, got it running...never got around to putting it back in to see if it was...left it there.

what I'm not sure of is maybe some previous owner of the 87' put a 86' emc in there?? that is the IDK, can't verify that. Unless there is a way from part #'s off the emc itself???

Reguardless, if it is a replacement emc the plugs on the wiring harness match.

even if it doesn't work i would think a sensor or to could be changed to work incase the read out is different
