If you can find a copy of the Sevn Pruitt book IIRC the title is How to build & modify the Ford 60 degree V6, it has instructions on the process.

He only offered tolerances, the actual dimensions of the spacers are up to the reader to determine. Think it was Pat Kunz that went into more detail, but I can't remember. I know the specs have been posted now and then. Camcraft also used to sell them (for 2.9L), but they seem to be having issues on their site and last I remember I wasn't able to get the to Ranger/BII stuff.
 
I'm running a Holley 350 with size #50 jets and it works perfectly. Yes ,as Kim says, you can use a different carb. It is cheaper that way also because you can find them in junkyards and off ebay. But the 350 is a perfect fit and not too much for that motor.
