Does anyone know why FORD (in their right mind) put a plastic holder on the hubs. If you do it real EZ you can pry the plastic that snaps on to the back of you wheel bearing assembly. The hole thing pops right out. I did mine and noticed that 3 of the 4 plastic pieces that hold the hub togeher were broke...and of course made of plastic.....wth is up with that?

That happens from driving in 4WD on dry pavement.

Would you rather have an easily accessible hub or a much less accessible U-joint break?

DON'T drive on dry pavement in 4WD.

The outer disconnect is fine the way it is, it sees very little stress by itself. The biggest issue with the system are the vacuum lines and seals; they often leak and will cause the disconnects to not properly engage/disengage.

those things are junk i destroyed both of mine in one trip. but it is better then ujoints snapping but really sucks when your in the mud. just buy the manual lockouts that are available now that i didnt have the oppurtunity to buy when i had my 98'
