..Hey, hope this is the right place for this,,,I have a '99 ranger 4x4. am working on ball joints and have a querry.
When I get to the passenger side ball joint, this is a 2 piece control arm (upper), and can only find the outer piece (part with ball joint), do i have to remove and replace the bushings in the passenger side upper control arm myself/or shop?? I also was wondering, do you have any articles on the rebuilding of the front hubs, bearings/seals, etc,,this truck has vucum hubs converted to Rugid Ridge.

(I consider myself a good backyard mech, been doing this for years , I do appriciate all the tech here)

chiloh30:

Welcome to Ranger Station; the front hubs in '98+ Rangers are non-rebuild-able... If they go bad, you remove and replace. (Insert comment about today's society if you so choose). The following is the sire tech article: http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/spring07/98_00_Ranger_hub_bearing.htm

While you no longer have the vacuum hubs, you still have the PIA snap rings which need to be removed in order to remove the axle as part of replacing the unit bearing front hub.

And it does look like your only choice is replace the bushings on the inner piece (apparently they don't fail every often).
