HP and Torque?

Little bit of info to add.
There was no 5.0 Thunderbird in 1989 and 1990

I've had 2 MN-12 Cougars, so I inform people of this all the time, the 5.0 wouldn't clear the cowl of the MN-12 body until they redesigned the 5.0 in 91. That's why 89-90 T-birds/Cougars had the 3.8 SC. Cougars only used it for those 2 years, However the T-bird kept it until 1995.

I do know the cobra cams had less lift on the cam but made up for it with the 1.7 rockers.

Nope, the Cobra cam had .282"lift (at the lobe, =.479 at the valve)
vs.
the H.O at .278"lift at the lobe. (= .444 lift at the valve)

'85-up no HO shows .237intake/.247exhaust lift at the lobe. (= .379/.395)

yeah you maybe correct we pulled the motor out of a 93 and it had less lift. I am not sure about the 91/92 birds.I do know the cobra cams had less lift on the cam but made up for it with the 1.7 rockers. something about piston to valve clearance or something like that.lol

My info came straight from Ford's 5.0 Mustang book. The Cobra cam's lobe lift is slightly more than the HO (.282 vs .278) I don't believe any part of the GT40 Cobra motor, other than the cam, was used in the T-Bird motor in 93. The heads definately weren't used in the T-Bird

well something ain't right cause when we pulled the cam we took it down and had it checked on a cam doctor and it had less lift. so something ain't right

ok whatever.
and it wasn't my cam anyways just a project I was helping with. I still don't know why it was different and truthfully I don't care I was just trying to be helpful. why anyone would bother putting a stock 302 in a ranger doesn't make since to me anyways.
:dunno: like larry the cable guy says it's like wiping before ya poop. It just don't make since

I've just been joking around , but let us not forget that the Tbird was available LoPo and HO.

Because why rebuild a 2.8 and put in a 5pd if I can put in a 302 with an automatic for the same or less money?

teddyzee I figured you were, all is cool.
85 ranger 4x4 I get the whole money thing of rebuilding a 2.8 verses a 5.0 but why not cam it a bit and make it more effecient while its not in an engine bay.
once you have had it in the truck for a bit your gonna wish you had added a little power then.
you wouldn't be putting a bigger engine in to begin with if you don't want more power.trust me I am right on this

If everything goes right I am probably doubling the hp my truck had anyway... that is a pretty good increase IMO. :icon_thumby:

My 2.8 had 110hp off the showroom floor, I am going to guestimate it was probably in the neighborhood of 70-80 when I pulled it... which makes the 160-170hp factory Crown Vic engine look pretty good.

And really, whatever it had before it still got around town (small town) pretty decent aside from pushing oil out the dipstick rolling smoke out the tailpipe.
