Hey everyone.
I picked up a 1998 Mazda B2500 about four years and a hundred thousand miles ago, and I absolutely love my little truck.
Over the years, I've had to do a couple of repairs that some people would consider 'major' and information found on this forum has been utterly invaluable. The repairs in question: replacing the clutch and replacing the timing belt. Both jobs were solo endeavors because I couldn't find anyone to help me. And even better was the fact that I had never done this level of repair work before! All I had was a Hanes manual and the Internet to get me by... And a half-way decent set of automotive tools. (Well... maybe it helps that I was a hydraulic/pneumatic/mechanical/electronic maintenance technician in the Navy.)
I am one of those guys who names his things - computers, vehicles, what-have-you... and I think the name I have christened my hard working little truck is utterly suitable.
Scrappy.
Because, just like the puppy from the cartoons, this truck is a little guy with the guts to take on anyone.
Oh, and I like to drive like my mom. Why is this important? She was taught how to drive by her grandfather... who drove giant ladder trucks waaayyy back in the 1940's (You know, back in the days when firefighters drove like raving lunatics on methamphetamines). And yes, I have heard tales about how mom scared the shit out of boyfriends who made the mistake of letting her drive their trucks!
