Ok so I am looking at purchasing a 2005 fx4 lvl2 from a private individual.
It has manual trans with electric transfer case 95k miles
I ran the vin # on carfax and this is all the info it has for options-
Vehicle Information:
2005 FORD RANGER
VIN: 1FTZR45E55PA27850 4 DOOR EXTENDED CAB PICKUP 4.0L V6 MPI SOHC 12V 4 WHEEL DRIVE
-Milage checks out and no accidents

Is there anyway to make sure it really is FX4 LVL2 by vin or something?
Besides the obvious visual signs (limited slip 4.10 rear, sticker on bed, skids) as that could have all been added to pass as one.

THANKS!!!!

Well, I can't see the trim package by the VIN, but I can tell you the 4.10 gears were factory installed.

I supposed beyond that if it has the chrome shifter knob it's probably the real deal.

The only other sure thing to look at is to pull the diff cover and look inside, see if it has a Torsen unit. By that point even if it is a fake, it might as well be the real thing because they did it all.

Also, the factory build sheet is saying "15X7 Cast Mach Alum Wheels *Holes", which I assume means the Alcoas, which would be these guys

which to my knowledge were only available on the FX4 and LVL2s.
