I did this on a 98 ranger today at the junkyard.
1) remove cable from throttle body, twist it off (rocking it back and forth). You should not need a screwdriver or any prying device..
2) on the intake manifold bracket pinch the two tabs together and push the cable assembly thru towards the rear of the truck.
3) crawl under the dash, remove the gas pedal with a 10mm socket. It should just fall off (the cable slips over the top).
4) look at where it connects in the firewall. On the inside of the cab you will see the same two tab setup as the intake. Pinch those two tabs together (I used some needle nose vice grips, but could be a done a number of ways), and push the assembly into the engine bay.
Installation is reverse of removal.
