so my 93 got a good wash today and the pinstrip started to come off in several places. ive always want to take it off anyway since its purple and pink but you can still see the glue on the body. i grabbed some glue remover from the parts store and got nowhere. is there any thing i can use that will take off the glue and not the paint.

You can go to a local hardware store or a place like home depot and buy some "GOOF OFF". It is safe for all finishes and will not leave a residue. It works great. As far as removing the pinstripe you can go to a local auto paint supplier and pickup an eraser wheel. Its pretty much a rubber wheel that fits in a drill chuck and allows you to remove vehicle graphics, pinstripes etc...without damaging the finish. I highly recommend after you remove any graphics or pinstripes to hand compound and wax the areas around them, if not you will still see the outline of where they were. hope this helps.
the goof off is about $5-$7. And the eraser wheel depending on size generally is about $10-$20.

Heat Gun?

second the heat gun..any decal/vinyl crap on any vehicle will come right off with the use of a heat gun..if you don't have access to any fancy ones, a blow dryer will provide ample amount of heat to remove..i suggest picking up the plastic razor blades from any parts store; they won't scratch the truck and help lift off the glue :icon_thumby:

your mom's hair dryer has enough heat to remove the stripes and i've used a plastic spoon from the kitchen table with great results ..:headbang:

if you leave the heatgun on one spot for too long you could mess the paint up. advance auto parts sells decal remover, im pretty sure its made by goof off. could try lacquer thinner. but i do not no what that will do to the paint...

lawlz, give your mom much propz for rolling with the jokes

I'm resurrecting this thread. For those of you looking to remove your pinstripe, I removed my effeminate purple and pink pinstriping today with a cheap travel hairdryer, goo gone, and ACETONE. I don't think it matters if you use mineral spirits, acetone, naptha or 3M adhesive remover. Pretty much just some type of solvent that smells like huffing it would be a bad (or fantastic!) idea will suit you just fine. GooGone works, but it's weak sauce.

I heat up the edge of the stripe, peel up a small amount with a razor blade, then heat up the ancient stripe ahead of where I'm peeling. Basically heat in one hand, peel with the other.

There will be a bunch of adhesive still left, but I used a sponge and would pour a little acetone on the pad, swab over the area and then use the gritty side of the sponge and gently rub. The more acetone the better, but I was running out so I would do small amounts.

Afterwards you'll have a bunch of tiny particles of adhesive left over. Acetone up your rag and wipe off.

Bam. Now your Ranger looks manly. Buff/Polish over the area where the stripes were and it should blend just fine.
