1989 4x4 xlt 2.9 supercab. It's been a couple of years since I took this radio out now I cannot remember how I took off the dash cover to access the radio ,any help for an old senile man. Thanks

If your dash looks like the one pictured below, then you shouldn't have to remove any part of the dash. Just get a set of removal tools, insert them into the four holes on each side of the radio, and pull them back out, while pulling the tools away from each other. The radio will slide right out.

My dash is similiar to yours, except I cannot remove the radio because of the trim around the dash. I have had it off before but in my senile stage now I cannot remember how I took off the trim. any tips?

you shouldnt have to take the trim off, you can get the "fork tools" at autozone for $5. like he said. if its an aftermarket radio, with a aftermarket bezel, its another story.

I have The radio removal tools , but it will not come out looks as if the trim covers the edge of the radio. If i knew how I would post a picture. Thanks

Some of the earlier 89-90 rangers have the radio behind the dash bezel. My 89 was like that. To get the bezel off just pull the ashtray all the way out and release the tab on top to pull it the rest of the way. On each side where the ash tray was there are 2 torx headed bolts. remove them. Remove the ash tray mount and let it hang below. Grab ahold of the dash bezel on the edge and just pull it is just held on by clips. if yours has push button 4wd unhook the connector from the back of the switch. You will also have to put your trans in low if its an automatic and tilt the steering wheel down if you can.

i think the rangers changed after 88.. so i won't be of any help

i know on my 88 ford ranger xlt.. i had to take off the whole dash.
