Hey guys! My front pump seal blew and my Haynes manual doesn't give a detailed description of removing my transmission without pictures. Im more a visual guy. I'd like some info on where I can find an' article on detailed information to remove/install it. I've never done this before and have basic tools. My truck is already on ramps and I have a jack. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:icon_confused:

if i remember right remove the drive shaft the cross member let the tail end of the tranny hang down a bit use 3 or 4 extensions to reach the bell housing bolts you might have to loosen the exhaust to remove the tranny

Transmission removal

I have replaced my a4ld before and took some pictures and still remember exactly how i did it. you will have to wait for tomorrow for me to post everything. mine was a 4x4 so it was a lil tougher and heavier.

Light the fuse and back away quickly.

Seriously, the A4LD needs to be overhauled by someone that knows them. Do a search on it. There is some machining that should be done to locate the pump, I think. It's not expensive, but it it isn't done the tranny will fail again. Do a search.

I'll have to wait for a Sunny day here. I Wish I had a garage. hah. Thanks Rotagotideas, I can wait for the pictures. hah. I'd rather pull it out correctly since I haven't done this. I know I gotta remove the driveshaft, lol, thats about it and the starter. I cant get the bolts loosened up for the driveshaft. Oi.

There's machining involved? I didn't even know that and even called up Tranny shops. I told them that the truck was regularly Started up about every 3 months for a few hours at a time for 5 years. It had been sitting since 2003. They never drove it; IE, put it in drive and drive it around to cycle the tranny fluid and exercise the transmission. I had inherieted it and started driving it. I was driving for a few hours going to Forks and the front pump seal blew out. Before that, the trans shifted and acted just fine.

Correction; I had been driving it since Febuary, driving to work which is about 7miles away every day. Then I decided to take a friends quad out so we could ride and the seal blew. The Trans shop said i didn't need to do any work to the trans itself. I dunno. I just wish I could have someone pull my trans for me but that'd cost 600.

That's pretty much it. Hopefully the exhaust isn't in the way.

I don't know about machining though..I thought you could just replace the seal too.

What does machining have to do with it?
