I am doing a head gasket job on a 2000 4.0 and would like to remove the 2 guide dowels that align the cylinder head to the block. I've tried to twist them out with some pliers with a piece of rubber to grip it, no go. Tried tapping with a small hammer, they don't budge. Is there some trick to this? I want them out so I can fully check the block face with a straight edge, as well as making sure they are in good shape.
