How to pull codes on a older 3.0L

I have a 94 B3000 4x4 auto, the check engine light came on. so i went to buy a code reader, the store only had a odb2 ? ...... i was told i need a obd1 .... but i was also told i could cross out the pins to get the code.

How do i do this ?

Ok it is in there but for a novice its hard to find ......... might want to say in the title obd1 test and the years it covers ?
