how to propertly offroad with a standard?

standard trannies suck balls!!:yahoo:

lol, and will the deluxe trannys suck other stuff? Thats a definite reason to upgrade!

PS: I'm a fan of autos, I think standards are becoming obsolete esspecially with the 'choose your gear' automatics on the market, but work with what you got. Anybody that thinks they are a wise guy and going to pipe up about "you like autos just cause you can't shift" can come for a ride with me in an old Semi with a twin stick setup and we'll see who can/cannot shift. :thefinger:

I'll take you up on that. I learned in an 81 Kenworth cab over with a 3408 V8 cat and a 5x4 with a 2spd splitter behind that and i still don't like autos and I have killed way more auto trannies than I have burned clutches and broke manual transmissions.

Nice, what I sometimes drive is a 81' Kenworth, cummins power, 15 speed with 4 speed aux.
So, are you saying I can't shift, OR are you just joining me in the ranks of guys that can twin stick?

join the ranks of twin stickers. I don't imply anybody can't shift until they tell me they double clutch their honda in a street race, then I roll my eyes and walk away.

That's a good one. :haha: Best laugh I've had all day, thanks.

Get a clue and realize RBVs autos are utter garbage and I wouldn't swap one in my rig if you paid me :thefinger: Enjoy your 10-15% more parisitic power loss too :thefinger:

If an auto took 10-15% of an engines output... I don't know if my truck could move...

I prefer auto's, even the weakest of the weak A4LD has treated me decent. I did replace it with a JY one 7 years ago, but it hasn't missed a beat since.

Torque converters are a nice thing to have... would be really nice to have one on a manual.

Why hasn't this been done I wonder.....? Honestly, no sarcasm here, that could be awesome.... Engine, flex plate, torque converter, flywheel, clutch. It is kinda complicated/messy, but it (could) would be a treat to drive!! Kind of like those 'semi-auto' quads, with centrifugal clutches.

what do you mean "if"? where do you think all that heat that autos produce comes from? its wasted power my friend. autos are inefficient.

Good ole' Wicked is correct as always. Autos do seem to be improving lately, but I still don't like them. At first I wanted one when I was in the market for a ranger, but I got "stuck" with a manuel. I am so glad I did. I am addicted now. I will never own an automatic- ESPECIALLY in an RBV.

My dad has it in a tractor, 1958 Case 800 with Case-O-Matic drive. Same 4spd hi/lo as a clutch tractor, but it has a torque conveter of sorts in place of a clutch. It has a pedal that acts like a clutch so you can shift between gears, and a lever under the steering wheel that locks up the torque conveter for direct drive once you get the load moving.

They advertised a 6x increase in pulling power over a typical clutch setup. We have both, and I would vouch that the COM tractor would stomp the daylights out of the clutch, and the clutch tractor has a bigger engine (1963 830 Dual-Range)

It was too different and people were scared of it, they sold the design to Caterpillar... dunno where it has gone since then.
