I have a 4 door ranger and i want to make it kind of a prerunner and it has a 4 cylinder 2.3l engine and i want to know how can i make it faster without putting turbo

Bolt on a few extra cylinders.

well there are quite a few sites that have 2.3L racing parts for NA engines, there is a circiut where i am from that runs 2.3L mustangs and 4 banger chevettes around a dirt track. they have cams, pistons, rods and all that for the cars, just gotta start looking.
why not just put a 2.5L in place? it's just a different head and EFI. or take a 2.5L short block and swap the head from your 2.3L.
or just take the crank from the 2.5L and stuff it in your 2.3L
making it a 2.5 or 2.4 (just going by memory)
and of course you could always take it to a machine shop to be punched out .030",
but other than all that work why not just get a bigger engine?

I believe you're thinking LIMA 2.3l, not Duratec 2.3l.

Weight reduction is your best bet! lol

Look at the cost versus the benefit. Putting a 4.0 or possibly a 302 is the best bang for your buck. I had a friend that wasted over $2000 after he blew a head gasket trying to get his 2.xxx running again. Looking back he kicks himself for not taking it to the scrap yard and finding a 302. While the story is a bit off topic the point is 4 bangers have no power, get a better engine :icon_rofl:

seriously, it'd be cheaper to do a 302 or 4.0 swap to get bang for buck...
i understand you WANT to keep the engine you have now.. but its probably not the best option.

its like when people want to spend money on the 2.9 when the 4.0 almost bolts into place... it just doesn't make sense to polish a turd..

I just did a complete engine rebuild on a Evo 8 and we port polished the interiors. I mean there is a turbo in it but with just those changes the engine is pushing 425 with stock turbo compared to I think 300.

It doesn't mate if you think he should do a swap he said he wants to leave the engine in place, lets stay on topic. I would think there is some cam options through the focus guys. Also opening up the exhaust a little can't hurt. I want to do a little research on coils, msd makes one for the 4.6 mustangs and it looks a LOT like the duratecs.

It's a truck... That weighs 3500# and has a 4-cylinder engine... That and fast really don't belong in the same sentence... OTOH if you have tons of money to throw at it and don't care that you will spend that ton of money and still not get the results you like, and you're truck will be terrible to drive on the street, I'd do a high compression build and run it on race fuel with a high lift/duration cam and completely reworked heads... It's basic engine building... Alot easier to go read up on some of what makes engines work and applying that to your build instead of coming on here and just asking "How I go faster?" lol...

For the time and money a swap is the best idea to make any RBV go faster. The 5.0 is an easy swap.

Turbo it... ?
