How to install y pipe to headers

I have a ranger with a 2.9. I scored some headers for it. The headers bolt up no problem but I can't slip the y pipe onto the headers because they are too tight. I will have to install the y pipe with the headers loose so the collector will fit over the sway bar bracket. Do I need a pipe expander to install them?
