I think I'm gonna go ahead and start my resto. But like most people my funds are limited so I'll do it in parts. I'll start with reconditioning the frame and clean underneath the bed cab and fenders. I'll leave the paint for last.

So my question is what is the best way to clean all the way up inside the bed and underneath the other sheet metal pieces? And what should be painted under there? I'd like to take off the bed to get started but should I lift the cab also?

This certainly isn't going to be a restoration like on T.V. but I want to get'r'done pretty well. Any ideas?

preassure washer.......

and the underside can be painted, and the frame and crossmembers should be painted with a brush, it holds better

what is the truck for, and what is it

i would take the bed off and lift the cab up if your wanting to get a good job done on it

How much work is involved will all depend on how much you actually want to do and spend. If you are doing a true restoration - pull the bed, strip it bare, seal it, prime it and then set it aside. Then do the cab and front clip the same way. If this is a daily driver then it will be harder to complete. As for the frame and the undersides of the bed, cab and fenders - I would undercoat them depending on where you live. When you have the major parts off you can check for corrosion and see if parts are needing replacement.

Good Luck and post some pics as you go . . .

Lucky for me this ranger has been a Texas truck all its life so rust is of little worry to me. Which is also the reason why I want to keep it around for a long time to come. I do plan to give it a really nice paint job when its all done though. If I do have to drop like 1 2 or 3 grand into it, I don't really care because I'll be ahead off the game versus buying new with monthly payments.

I use my 1992 ranger for the street and my 1979 f150 for all the hard work.

Also if any body has bought a resto piece and really liked or disliked it tell me.
