How to get rid of rust in top rail of ext cab

My 2011 extended cab is rusting at the gutter/drip rail. (It's the two door version) I've tried sanding in there and painting afterwards as well as pouring Osfo in it. The rust keeps coming back.

Is there a way to really get into these rails to get rid of the rust properly?

That rail is usually doubled up metal where the top is welded to the rest of the cab. I wonder if you are getting water in from somewhere else. Like a hole under the rubber of the windshield.

It's not coming in the cab at all. Florida weather is so humid that dew and moisture sits in the rail over night and early morning that I get these light streaks of rust funning off them onto the back of the cab

I dont know if por-15 would work any better than ohspho but its what I would try myself.

Be sure to clean the area of surface rust. Use POR-15, then primer then paint.

When you say it is a 2 door, do you mean that the rear door does not open?

You can go the POR-15 route, but I have used Rust Bullet to great success as well. The main key is going to be prep. Wherever you think the rust ends, keep going further, there will be more rust. Make sure whatever you get will be UV resistant (I do not know if POR-15 is UV resistant).

Yep it's a rare 2011 ext cab where the rear doesn't have doors. (I was shocked when I found out)

My concern is that it's the spot welds themselves that are rusting. I can only get in so far with the sandpaper.

I'll ask zman to see what he thinks as well.

My concern is that por 13 might be too thick.

What’s the difference between a super cab and an extended cab without a door?

Just the position of the jump seats as far as I can tell. On my 2 door model, the jump seats come out of the side panels instead of the back wall. Other than that, not much.

From what I gather, the only difference is that the doors don't open. They were not extremely popular, and usually found on the lower trim levels I believe. I can imagine that if someone would only use the backseat for storage of tools and whatnot, maybe they would not mind it. I think from the late 70's to the early 90's, most extended cab trucks did not have rear doors that opened. (I remember my dad's 78 Dodge W200 Club cab being that way)
