1989 4x4 xlt 2.9 auto. When I start the engine it ticks on the drivers side until the engine warms up,I think have ruled out lifter noise not sure. It sounds more like exhaust leak but I cannot locate it. The flange connection is tight. need advice on ways to check for the leak Thanks.

baby powder all over the pipes, start it up and see if some blows away. also you can stick a piece of paper in the area and see if it gets blown away from escaping gases. if its headers you may see some smoke from the exhaust port area. hope this helps.

that'll work. I just have a partner. I put my hand over the end of the tail pipe, and have the person lay under the truck and listen for the leak. It's worked plenty for me. Just don't try it when the engine is hot

do what ati said and if there is one ur local auto parts store should sell a kit to fix it it is not to expensive either
