hey guys i bust my outside passenger front shaft, i got it out and i want to take out the inner part of the shaft that goes from the diff to the outer shaft, and i was wondering how i get it out? if the only way is to disconnect the ujoint then how do i go about doing that? thanks guys

You have to pull the diff to remove the c-clip.

so i need to rip the drive shaft out, and unbolt the diff from the ttb, and drop it all as one peice? [diff/shaft]

the only way?

and is there a step-by-step here on removing a d28? because i never done that, this is what im thinking
1. haul driveshaft
2. drain fluid
3. pull diff
??

what about the drivers side wheel/shaft, i dont have to take that out to do i? my spindles are extremely very hard to get off the first time, and the drivers side hasnt been off before

The drivers side shaft will just slide out once you get the spindle off.

You have most of it, but, you will need to remove the pinch bolt on the drivers side of the diff, which may require relocating the radius arm temporarily.

pinch bolt? and my drivers side spindle gotta come off?

well my first problem;

no way in hell is that drive shaft coming off. you cant fit a socket on over the bolt, and no way on this earth am i getting it with a 10mm wrench. wtf ford? whyd you have to make things so complicated.
how am i supposed to get my driveshaft off?

its a dana design not fords. IIRC it should also have torx.

Chris

Yeah, should be a torx.

Spindles are a b!$ch. They all are. The get covered in crap their whole life and are seldom removed for anything. Be glad it's hard to get off... It's all the holds the wheel on.

I always use a spare spindle nut (junkyard) and thread back onto the snout and then beat like hell with a 2lb sledge all the way around working it loose from the 5 studs.

Like mentioned the driveshaft should also have tork bolt holes in the center of the head. Don't use a cheap set of bits, the ones with a hollow center (harbor freight) will snap and damage the head. Ask me how I know.

The pinch bolt is self explantory. You will see it. It is top to bottom on the beam itself.

lol, silly blackBII and your conclusions. there is a rubber 'boot' in the middle of the shaft, i took that off, and slid the shaft right out. had the shafts out, put the new outter shaft on the inner shaft and added a new ujoint while i was at it, and put both the shafts back in and im 4wheeling again in 45 mins work :D

You asked me how to remove the inner shaft, so I told you. :icon_twisted:

If you would have asked how to replace the u joint on the outer shaft, I would have told you to remove the spindle and pull the shaft out, which, in effect would be separating the inner shaft from the outer shaft. :icon_thumby:

so theres like 3 shafts on the passenger side right? i thought there was only 2, i needed the 2 outter ones took out, adn i had to replace the outter small shaft, that was busted, i only replaced the ujoints for the shits of it

Count 'em
