i use penzoil high mileage 5w30 what ever the weight says on the sticker under the hood, can never remember.

is there an addative or a different oil i can use that burns less

iv heard that mobil one burns less?

just wonderin your guys's opinions because i try do as much work as i can by myself like oil changes without paying other people.

also any tips for replacing a thermostat on this engine, going to be doin that this weekend aswell. looks pretty straight forward.?

As far as a thermostat goes make sure to get the 195* or whatever your engine calls for. I advise using the Ford one as it has a little valve that others do NOT have.
Then fill the radiator with the heater turned to hot and fill it and fill it and fill it while the engine is running.. After it gets up to temperature it will belch a bunch of air out and then have room for a few more quarts of coolant.. Make sure it is completely full of coolant before putting the cap on the radiator.

Then the oil burning.. Almost always it is the valve stem seals that have went away! You can continue to drive it and let it burn the oil or you can put new seals on the valves.. which ain't easy!

there's your problem, Penzoil!

i agree with this guy....

i use rotella in everything i own. i've grown up around a lot of diesel stuff and farm equipment. the only thing i'd say not to use this is a street bike or dirt bike that hits really really high rpm's.

wal-mart put penzoil in my chevy when i went to have tires roatated and balanced.. yeah, i don't get it either... i was confused to see my hood up when they are rotating tires. :dunno: and i got a free oil change (but i told them to drain it and put rotella in, that's all i use) they told me oil was oil, but they did it or so they said. the truck had never used oil till that day. and used oil for about 5-8 months after i changed the oil the next time.. i'm convinced they didn't change it and the penzoil is what did it. it had to be...

but i've heard nothing but good about mobil 1 and castrol

Oil is just oil! If one kind will sneak into an engine and get burnt so will all others!
You have an oil leak into the combustion chambers.. Therefore you either have bad rings or bad valve sealing.. So what is it you can do short of a pulling the engine? Valve seals is your answer..
