Hardy har, I got my project Ranger 600$ and it was only 60 miles away. :yahoo: Rangers are common , take the time to do some more looking. The more you spend, the less you will have to fix.

It doesnt matter if you spend it now or spend it fixing it later, in the end, you have a great truck, your broke and you have never been happier. :icon_thumby:

I'm finding myself wondering why I've seen multiple suggestions that the clutch/flywheel/slave is going to be $400 or more? I just replaced my clutch/flywheel in August and priced a slave at the same time (didn't end up replacing it though), the ENTIRE clutch kit cost me $165 (Car Quest) and the flywheel was only another $58 (O'Reilly's), was quoted a slave for $39 (Car Quest) too. Thats only $262 for an entirely new clutch assembly minus the master cylinder of course.

I did my clutch for $125. Re-used the slave, it was fine. Ain't too hard to pull my tranny.

Valve cover gasket kits (including upper intake) will cost about 40 bucks if I recall...It is a lot of work to do. you have to remove pretty much everything on top of the engine to get the valve covers off. not hard, but tedious. if you spend about 150 or so on it, you can redo all the upper engine gaskets. (I did this to mine) Here is my write up on how to do it:

If this truck has been sitting more than a couple of months without being driven, I would offer 1000 for it and walk a way if he does not take any less than 1500 (this is assuming you are the one to start and run it for the first time and are just removing it from his property. 1900 if he can prove (and you are comfortable with it) that everything on it works, has been serviced etc..Another question is why has it sat so long...

Take it out for an hour or more worth of test driving, highway speeds, in town, try the 4x4 system etc.. if it is all working great, maybe the 1900 is reasonable.

Just my $.02

I don't think the truck can be driven with the trans issue. 300 miles away is just stupid since you can't drive right over and look at it. You gotta drive 300 miles just to look at it and then leave when you see it might be a real POS. Just look close to home. 20-45 miles away is better then 300. How are you going to get it home? You gonna tow it 300 miles, or get a wrecker???

I didn't see anything in his post that said the truck was disabled, it just needed work. the clutch while original is said to be working properly. If it is not drivable, offer him 800, no more than 1000... as it could very well be a parts truck... if it is running and drivable but with issues then my above post still stands.
