How Much Oil do I Add?

I have a 1988 Ford ranger with a 2.9 liter engine in it. When i do a complete oil change filter and all, I was wondering how much oil do i add?

I put 5 quarts in, and the dipstick shows its over filled.

did u start the vehicle? if not start the engine let pressure build then check oil

No, when i bought the vehicle, there was just a chiltons manuel.

Yeah, it will show a little full until you start it... Gotta fill up the filter and whatever was emptied by draining the old out... 5qts is it...

if the oil isnt warm not all of its going to come out..
