How many Rangers ('83-'11) were produced? Did anyone keep track?

My friend Ryan and me were discussing finding parts. He drives an 80s Volvo, and he has a hard time finding parts, especially affordable ones. I said I've never had trouble finding parts because there are at least half a dozen Rangers in every salvage yard across the country. Ryan said that's because Volvos rarely break down, but I thought it was a question of numbers. I was able to find a number for how many Volvo 240s were produced, but even on this forum, Wikipedia, and other research, I couldn't find how many Rangers were made in total. Does anyone have or know where I could find this info?

there was a source for that. dont remember it anymore....internal ford that is gone now...

but lots of articles from 2011.

says peak was 1999 348,358 units..... wow.

just under 7 million total according to that to 2011. that is alot of rigs.

looks to me like unless ford broncofys the ranger...it will be killed off again.

I kinda think LMC used to have that in the front of their catalogs.

Sadly once things hit about 20yo+/- they seem to get thin in JY's

There is a decent chance I frequent the same yards you do, it is a special even when I can find a first gen in a yard anymore. When I did my V8 swap 10+ years ago there was always 3-5 in any of the yards in Omaha and you had to trip over TTB Explorers and later model TTB/TIB Rangers to get to them.

Last time I was there between the two yards remaining yards there was one TTB truck and it had spent time underwater.

I have looked and not found much. Here is what I do have for the Ranger.

Bummer that it doesn't go farther back than '85; can't say how accurate this is, either.

IIRC Ford sells their records to Marti and doesn't have anything to do with it.

Hopefully the remodel helps, and hopefully they can actually keep the stinking line running.

yeah....i miss having access to stuff. and the line...that is a whole different deal right now.

Dayum, 93 and 94 are almost identical in every way and the two years together is almost 700,000

seems like that middle 90's era was a very, very hot period for ford. I see more mid 90's ford trucks (both rangers and F series) then probably any other generation then the current one.

Cars? Not so much though.

Thanks for the info! I see loads of them around in both states where I live, so I always wondered if there were truckloads made, people hung onto them, or both.

The Ranger model was started in '85, so the years are accurate. Prior to being its own model, it was a trim line. Thanks for the awesome graph!

I got to the U-Pull It yards in Omaha. Omaha North and Omaha South both have a bunch. South has 6 Rangers and a 94 B-series, and North had at least 4 Rangers. Funniest thing is that most of them are missing the lower air dam bumper, and ALL of them had jery-rigged console box fixes. I couldn't stop giggling about the console boxes (I was there to get brake lines).

You're welcome; and actually, there were 1983 and 1984 Rangers, as their own model. I just haven't found sales figures for those two years.

1983 494,084
1984 247,042

I don't like that 1984 and 85 numbers are identical but those are numbers I have.

Note: Those are just US sales, there are Cdn sales as well (and cheap as we are, Rangers were very popular). Cdn sales of Explorer/Navajo/Mountaineer/Navigator ran very close to 10% of US sales.
Note 2: It doesn't include 196,619 Mazda B2300/B3000/B4000s from 1996 to 2008

It also doesn't include South America sales!

Total Ranger sales are well over 7M, probably closer to 8M.

Thank you.

The very reason I went after a Ford when looking was their past.
I read a lot of newspapers in their day, the years in Nashville I had a morning and evening edition. I could get through one in 30-45 minutes and catch about anything it had that I'd be interested in.

I also knew Nissan had a bad ass six, and others had some fair amount of reasons to like/buy, but the main reason, when I began seriously looking for a vehicle, that I went only to the f150 and Ranger columns was that during the later 80s and early 90s they were in a battle to match the competition, and it was very strong.

During those years they had sold the F150 and Ranger series at very little profit due to the stiff competition from foreign sales, so in those years I figured you got just about everything you paid for on those models
