2002 4.0 4x4 w/5spd, 176k, no rattle, but getting tough to shift.

my 1994 Ranger has 176,000

Running strong, needs a New headliner, and my low Idle gets rough and dies at stops, unless I put it into neutral then shift back when time to go. Aggravating, but runs smooth and strong when moving.

Love my Ranger.

Hey guys,
I have 421,00 miles on my '98 XLT, with same engine. Mostly LA freeway driving,
up and down west coast.
This engine overheated at 340,00 w/ freeze plug rust -out and resultant coolant loss.
Had upper engine rebuilt by Ford mechanic after learning both heads were cracked.
New pushrods , heads rebuilt.
Runs great, looks great, might burn a quart of oil every 10K miles, depending on terrain.
Anticipating engine to see an easy 500K miles. Full synthetic oil changes every 10k miles since new with Redline, and now Mobil 1, it has never been abused.

296K and counting

Mine turned 296.5K miles today. Never any engine trouble.
BUT, I just started driving very short distances (less than 2 miles one way) several days a week....

Um my 1994 4.0 has 476,000 miles and still runs strong. Doesn't burn any oil. Does have a few leaks but only uses a a quart in an oil change interval.
