My 1988 Ranger 2.9 has 132K on the clock. Is it fair to say, as a generalization, that it's time for a new cat? Thanks

Depends on general condition of vehicle and tune ups. I work at a Toyota dealer and just put the first replacement on a Camry, 250k on it.

I have 137k on my 94 Explorer and the entire exhaust is 100% original, from the manifolds all the way back to the tailpipe. I haven't felt the need to replace any of it. The only time I would replace it is if it were rusting out, clogged cat, etc. In other words, if it actually NEEDED to replaced. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If your a short shot driver cat, mufflers ect will rust out faster then if your longer destination driver. Short hops do not get the system hot enough to evaporate the moister from the system

You should be fine up until at least 200k. Like stated before, I see no reason to change it out unless you had it plugged up or it was rusting out. Invest the $ in good performance exhaust instead! :headbang:

Thanks for the info guys.
