I have a 302 in a 1991 Ranger and I have the old 7.5in axle in it and I am going to buy an 8.8in axle form a junk yard ranger so I would have no width issues with a ford 9in. I am asking how hard it would be to make the swap...

If you get it from a Ranger it will be a bolt in ordeal, so I will be able to leave out setting pinion angle and mounts and such. You may run into some driveshaft flange issues between different years, so it would be wise to take the driveshaft as well. That way you can just swap companion flanges around if need be, or use the other shaft as is.

when i changed from an 7.5 to 8.8 i lucked out and got skyjacker 4" lift springs in the deal so i just changed springs and all......4 bolts....... center brake line.....e-brake cable.....left the wheels on both.rolled one out ....rolled the other in.
mats's right about the flange and the shaft........GET BOTH!you may have to mix and match........iam trying to dig up a small u-joint flange just so i can drive my truck.
hope this helps
