Hey how can i remove the speed cap on my 98 v6 3.0 Ranger??? I dropped a new engine in it and it has incredible amounts of power but the speed is capped at 98 mph. Is there a chip i can remove or bypass? Or am i just doomed for the rest of my Rangers life of driving 98mph? Because u no the old song saying i can drive 55... While i cant race at 98.. The motor i have in here now can easily push 130.
Early thanks to all who reply!
Thanks
Ryan

First of all you own a TRUCK not a race car, and you should have no reason to be even going 98 in a truck. That said if you buy an aftermarket tuner, or get REAL friendly with your local Ford techs you can remove the limiter otherwise your stuck.

I know it is a truck and its not like im always going to be going 100+ i drive the speed limit 24/7 but when im out in the desert things are different on the track and raceway. And what do you mean by a aftermarket tuner? can you give me any brand names or description of what it is. Thanks for the quick reply!!!

I used Bama and am very happy with it. I understand he is kind of hard to get a hold of sometimes though.

I heard that you can unplug the wires that regulate the rpms for each certain gear, ne1 hear neting along the lines of that???

Its been taken care of.

Crazy4Bowln, I have never heard anything like that, I think you'd have a Xmas tree on your dash

Sasquatch_Ryda, Thanks.

The engine is rpm limited. 5250 on most Fords. It has nothing to do with "wires to each gear." As stated above, you must get a chip to modify the limiter, or have the dealer do it, and good luck with that.:)shady

Thanks every1, i had a old buddy i contacted who worked at a dealership 4 hours away, i drove it in and he replaced some things and charged me 138.00 but now there is no speed cap. Thanks once again every1 for their input and help!!!
