I have a 83 and im getting the 89-97 beams with a set of 93 spindles on them
Already.
So is it worth it to upgrade to 95-97 spindles and dual piston calipers?
For those of u first gen guys how much of a upgrade is the 95-97 dual piston calipers over the stock 83-94 stuff.

I would say so, just for the fact that the 84-94 stock setup is only one piston. The dual piston setup is infinitely better. I noticed this when fully loaded, the stock setup doesn't allow the truck to brake quicker, especially if there is additional weight. The dual setup would allow to shorten braking distance, even if the load in the truck is heavier.

The only real reason I would really want to is because with the older setup the spindle is a wear item. My '85's are not bad with nearly 150k on them so it may not be a big deal, you can see where they have been worn with the pads sliding back and forth on them.

The parent's '94 Explorer was worn enough that the pads would get off a little bit and jam the works up and then get ripped apart.

I barely drove it between my rear disc swap and my front dual piston swap, so I can't tell what did what, but for ease of service, can't be beat. I do love my 6-piston, 4-wheel disc brakes though.

ok anyone else have any reviews?
also is there a difference in the 2wd vs. 4wd 95-97 spindles, ie will i need 2wd spindles?

also are the rotors bigger on the 95-97 vs the 83-94?

If your truck is 2wd you have to used 2wd knuckles 4x4 stuff is different. The rotors are bigger.

You can also fab up or buy from gumby or other guys a set of brackets to fit explorer sporttrac 12.1'' rotors on the 95-97 spindles, same calipers, pads and bearings..

Those with rear explo disc brakes are day and night compared to the stock 10.25 rotors and crappy drums. I can't make any statement in difference with the older 1 piston calipers, but I guess only the 10.25 rotors with 2 piston calipers upgrade would make a good difference too.

I'll tell ya, the pedal is a lot harder with 6 pistons instead of 2. Not bad booster hard, but nice stiff breaks hard.

ok thanks so it times to find a set of 95-97 2wd spindles.

ok so this upgrade is just a rotor upgrade, but still using the stock 2 piston
95-97 calipers, it just moves the calipers out to fit a bigger rotor?
if so any links, ill do some searching also.
