retarded question but, how the heck do you get the shift knob off? 1995 ranger, 5spd. is it glued? it wont spin, so what the heck do i do? thanks:fie:

its a press-fit. shaft is splined. i took off the whole lever and held it knob-down in a pot of boiling water for a few minutes, then pulled it straight off the shaft. (while wearing leather welding gloves) ive got a hurst shifter now. 3/8-16 threads.

Do not straddle it and pull with both hands straight up... saw a guy knock himself out at the junkyard when the knob came off and he punched himself in the chin!

HAHAHAHA!

Pull down on the shift boot and put a open ended wrench on it hit upwards with a hammer and it pops right off.

A good heat gun will also do the trick.
