How do i test a Crank sensor in my 1993 2.3?

after replacing EVERY SENSOR UNDER THE HOOD, the eec, the ICM, the timing belt on my truck as well as checking for compression, changing the exhaust and looking for vacuum leaks... checking fuel system, replacing filters... basically im not driving the same truck anymore... anyway i got off track... my truck is sputtering/ dying/ backfiring when it warms up and the only thing i haven't replaced/checked yet is the CPS (note: there isnt a cam sensor on this year). i would like to know if the $160 dollar part im about to replace is actually bad before i rip the front of my motor off to replace it. so anyone with the technical knowledge to test this part please help.

The best way to test it without a scanner is to hook a volt meter to the sensor's pins and crank the engine. You want to see approx 1V A/C being put out by the sensor.

adsm08, Which Pins? and shouldnt there be two sets I need to test since its two sensors in one?

txgocartB3000 i already did the test found at easyautodiagnostics. it was very helpful but i think there are two more tests, one is a resistance test and the other is the one adsm08 says to do and both are with the sensor unplugged.

Yes there are two "hall effect" sensors in the CKP sensor.

Google: ford 2.3 crank sensor test

That video will show you which wires to test resistance on and to test for AC voltage, that's AC not DC voltage so switch your meter to AC Volts, it will be low voltage, .5-1.1vAC

The CKP sensor tells the computer to turn on the ignition system when crank is seen to move, so a problem with CKP sensor would produce a no-start, not rough running.

Thanks guys. Wasn't sure if YouTube was somewhere I should go because I have gotten lots of bad info about what's under the hood of my truck already

I can send you 1993 schematics from the EVTM.
Not the whole book, but enough to answer your questions.

Send me a PM with your e-mail address.
