I want to take this shifter apart to fix it. But, I cannot see how to do it without making it worse. Any ideas?

You mean take the knob off?

If so, you have to heat the knob up with a heat gun (a real hot hair dryer may work too, though might take awhile), then forcefully yank the knob straight off (hopefully some previous owner hasn't glued the thing on... I had to deal with one of those once... PITA :annoyed: )

From the factory they are just press-fitted on.

I would try a jack-all, one end tied to the foot and the handle tied to the top of the jack. Pump the handle and watch it come apart! A little heat as suggested and Bob's your uncle.

I am going to give it a shot. But considering the shape it is already in, I may just want to track down a new one.
