How do I separate 5speed shifter from pivot ball thingy?

How do I separate my 5speeds' shifter from pivoting part?
Beat the threaded cross pin out?

I've got a '92 4-banger fwiw
 
Take the nut off & put it on the opposite side. As you thread it on, it'll pull the pin out.
