hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me. Ive got the cover off ...ive removed the one bolt securing the center pinion sdhaft. One problem is the shaft hits the main gear and wont come out. My other problem is that s-spring how does that come out? any suggestions. then when i get to the c-clip is there any special considerations in its removal? THank you for your help.

There's usually a flat on one side of the shaft that will allow the shaft to go far enough to allow the half shafts to be pushed in far enough to take out the c-clips. The s-spring applies some pre-load to the clutch pack and just sits there but it should have a fair bit of tension on it so be careful.

Do not attempt to remove the s-spring until you've removed the ring gear from the carrier.

If you are only trying to remove an axleshaft there is no need to do all that...

Like the others said...

pull that 8mm bolt... slide the cross-pin out as far as you can... push axle shaft in towards truck... should slide enough in that you can pull the C-clip right out

me too

i have the same problem, i worked on mine last night, didnt know how to get the c clips out, looks like you have to pull the s clip to get to it.
i have to replace my pinion bearings, carrier bearings and wheel bearings. never done this before.

if anyone can point me to an old how to thread i would appreciate it. i havent found one yet.

hmmmmm

wish me luck, im gopin back out there to try and get that crap apart. i think i can get it out by some way, getting it back in will be the harder part. im makin one call on the way to someone whoi may have the answer. if all goes well ill put my pics up here and a mod can make a tech write up out oif it?

here i go.

My dad and I took the c-clip off by me pushing on the axle hard enough for him to take it out and put it back in. I do remember a rod or somehting that was taken out of the center part nad we had trouble getting it out because of the main or big gear was in the way so my dad (dont this at home or at all) took the angle grinder and ground away some of the big gears teeth to get the rod out. To this day it works great and no problems....yet. Btw we were replacing the rear seals...oil was getting everywhere. Now my diff. cover is yellow.....dunno why he wanted yellow, but looks great though.
