How difficult would it be to clean thses up?

If you use a blaster there wouldn't be much to it. I used the cabinet at work and it didn't take much to clean up my accessory brackets. Don't get too carried away with the gasket surfaces. Throw some aluminum paint on them and brush the tops black and you are done.

Also be careful if there is a trap for oil with the fill hole/pcv hole so you don't get sand stuck in there. I doubt your engine will like silica sand being ran through it...

Without a blaster I wouldn't touch them. You couldn't pay somebody to blast them and come out any farther ahead than a new set of aluminum ones.

Here is a set I toyed with getting until my steelies quit leaking:

Do you have a buddy who works at a repair shop? We used to put really bad parts in a 'Hot Tank'. Aluminum too would go in the tank. The parts would soak over night and get the crud of of them. Then the fun began with the hand cleaning and glass beading the aluminum parts very carefully and then had polish and then buff them out. It was a lot of work. You would really have to want those and nowadays, I would not take them to be truthful. I would look elsewhere.

If they are true Shelby covers, worth $500-700 a pair. Very few still around. Take a lot of work to get them looking good. Think I'd just go to Summit/Jegs and get a new set.

i don't think those are as bad as they look.

i've cleaned up ones that look worse than that with just a (hand)wire brush and some solvent.

paint them up,then use a sanding block on the fins and letters, they'll look better than new.you can't beat the price, and besides...they're ford pieces-not chinese made aftermarket garbage.

these items looked about like those.i have a blast cabinet but didn't bother with it for these.

if,on the other hand, you want them polished up-you've got some work ahead of you.

I had to go back and really see what was advertised. No buy it now, just a current bid. No mention at all of manufacturer, just that they have been on that car for years. If you can get them cheap, go for it, they can be saved with work.
