My credo
If it ain't broke, I can't fix it.
I've just finished up the 5.0L with T5 swap into my 2000 Ranger, but I'm still running the stock 7.5" conventional rear. I'd like to get an 8.8 locker, but don't know what years and/or motors and 2WD or 4WD models came with them. I need it to have the speed sensor on it for my speedometer as well. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can check the rear axle tag. If the number on the tag looks like 3L55 it's a 3.55 L/S, etc. In the tech library there is a list of codes you can look up that list limited slips. Also, if looking at a rear end with the cover off, a limited slip will have a big spring that looks like an S between the spider gears.

So as far as tag goes, it's the same as the Mustang. Chances are that the rear cover will be on when I go to buy. Are there any specific applications the 8.8s came in consistently (i.e. 2WD 4.0 or 4WD)?

anything that came with a 4.0 from the factory will have an 8.8
