how big????

Original question. 347 shoul be fine. Its just a strokedand poked 302. Dimmensionally the are exactly the same on the outside. 89 4.ol is should have the 8.8 so you should have plenty of strentgh for the 347. The d35 I what I would worry bout being the weak link.

I was going to buy an 89 Ranger reg cab with a 460 stuffed under the hood for my first truck....

Except my dad said no frickin way, lol.

The guy had slips from the track, said it was running high 10s in the quarter and he hadn't got it fully set up and tuned yet. Probably a good thing my dad wouldn't let me get it back then, lol.

if your dad can say no to a vehicle because it's too fast, then you're not old enough to have it...

How big and how much power is determinded by how big your wallet is. Cheapest and easyest is a 302 based motor. The older you get, the more you understand what that pedal under your right foot does.
This is old truckers build of a 347. I've got some videos of it sitting there idling. Sorry for the size, pulled it up from another site

Bear in mind that this was years ago when I was looking for my first truck.

I could have it now if I wanted, but I think I'd rather build my own go-fast toy than buy someone else's.

well i know that the 347 is a stroker 302 thats y im asking i was wondering if anyone has done it and if they liked it. my 89 only has a 7.5 rear and dana 28 front. i put the 4.0 in it. It had a 2.9 but i swaped it out for a 4.0 and m5od when the truck caught on fire.

i figured, that wasn't a you specific comment, just a generalization

To the OP, yes the 347 will fit, just like any other 302/5.0 conversion(I have one in my 84). The stroker comes frome internal mods of the engine. The 8.8 will hold up to the power coming from the 347, I use mine for wheeling (it is locked) and havent had any issues with it. I have 68 heads on mine (smaller combustion chambers= higher compression), and its bored 40 over(had a good scratch in one cylinder wall) so its a little hotter than just a regular stroker.

As far as the D35 I have that too, and as long as your using your head, it will hold up as well(mines locked as well).

i know a 347 is just a storked 302 but i was wondering if poeple have done it and if they liked it. how do you like yours do u know how much power it has???

Sorry misunderstood. I like the power it has, of course I'm running a C-6, and lose a lot of HP through that pig(its bulletproof for trail crawling though). I would like mine a lot more if it had FI ('69 block), but just running a Quadrajet. Ive never dyno'd mine, but I can roast the BOGGERs on dry pavement all I want.

o ya i know that i have big plans for the truck. so it will take me awhille to get it done, but it should be worth it. right now im going to do an sas swap but only going to use a d30 i know it is weak and sounds dumb to do but, i would not be able to do it myself and there is a guy i want to do it for me were i live im moveing in november. im head to sacromento to go to uti so when i get down there i am going to have a ford 9inch built in to a front axle and im going to do 9inchs all the way around. alot of people tell me im wasteing my time and my hopes are to high but i love wrenching. and i dont want to build an old car i want to build the truck my grandpa gave me. so it should be worth it.

samehere dude, I wanna build my truck my grandfather gave me an make it worth it.people on here tell me not to waste my money as do my family an friends but if its worth it then why dont u do it...I am going to build my truck oneday an swap in a 302 or sumthing like that v8 tho.sweet truck

There was a shop back home that was doing b2200/302 conversions, but leaving the 7.5 in it, and from what they told me, the 7.5 will hold up to the 302 all day long, as long as you didn't put anything wider than like a 225 on the back...
