How big of an engine can I go on a dana 44 ttb?

Just recently got offered an entire suspension system including tires and rims (40 inch tsl super swampers) for a cheap price. What is the biggest engine that has gone on these axles? because I have been working on my 5.9 cummins swap and if the dana 44 will hold up I might consider

The main factor is going to be how you drive it and what kind of stresses you're applying to the axles.

The Dana 44 came in the 1995 Dodge 2500. Now, I'm no Dodge expert, but I'm 95% sure the 5.9 was an option. Just did a quick check on VatoZone/OReilly/Advance, and that seems to be a yes.

One more edit: If you're just doing mud, I'm sure those 40s will work out, but I'd advise at least upgrading you're axle shafts if you're running those tires.

If your installing a 6bt engine in a Ranger you shouldnt have to ask if a Dana 44ttb is strong enough. Cummins powered trucks came with Dana 60 Fronts...

He's asking if it's too much power, not too little. I say nay, it's not too much power.

I just don't want it doing what mine does now when I put that heavy engine on it and it makes my tires bow out

That'll come down to the coil springs you use. The 6BT is about 1100-1150 lbs. A 4.0 is...5-600? (Someone please correct me on that. )

You don't want a TTB to act like a TTB? Have you considered a solid axle?

My truck doesn't have a dana 44, it's coming off a big bronco, what would be some coil springs I could get that will fix the tires for bowing out? I know they put big block 460s or bigger on dana 44s

You need to learn more about suspension. It doesn't matter if the axles will hold the weight, it matters if the axles will handle the torque. Get stiffer springs to hold the weight of the 6bt. I wanna see how you fit a 6bt in a ranger anyways

For the bowing out, stiffer springs. You can google for spring rate calculators once you know your corner weights. As suggested you should learn the differences between the TTB and straight axle. Not dissing, just trying to save you some grief.

Well yeah I could def use more knowledge on these axles, and I was just trying to see if I could save some money cause I already have the d44 ttb from a bronco, but I'll prolly go with straight axles, and for 90jurassic2, my 6bt cummins will go in my ranger because I'm tired of people saying it can't be done, idc how long or how much it's gonna take, I've never been scared of hard work and learning, I'm determined to prove people wrong

Well hell man post a build thread and I'll definitely subscribe to it. Sounds like a hell of a truck.
