how big is alaska?

+1 Is that a Texas beach? Melt all the ice off of AK, TX is the biggest - I know, I know, old and wrong wife's tale. I'll take TX over anything.

It looks amazing in the summer, but I'd rather sandpaper a leopard's asshole than go through one of your winters.

Yeah 9 months is not too much fun but its dark so I get to use my KC lights ALOT,and the first and last 2 months suck but if you snowmachine or snowboard the 5 months in the middle are the best around.

How hard is it to find work out there? With a nine month winter how much work can there really be?

Not to bad, I do seasonal work for American tire in spring and fall, thats a good 3 months for both seasons, then the 3 months of summer I'm currently working for the government but there are tons of forestry jobs and city jobs that open up. Its the 3 months in dead winter I have trouble unless i got on at the ski resort. But the job market isn't too bad up here, wasn't hit as hard as down south.

I've heard the misquitos are se big in Alaska that they need FAA clearance to fly!

Pfffft. Beaches are like Florida. They are where old mountains go to die. Nice kini though!

Texas is a wonderful state.... To be from. Sure glad I don't live there anymore though! San Mucus ain't bad though. Attended some hellatious SWT parties. Definitely some fine young ladies there. :icon_thumby:

The skeeters can get a bit out of hand from time to time. The trick is to be flexable in your destination. If the bugs are gad at ones pot, move to another. Higher elevation usually does the trick. All the skeeters hatch at the low elevations first, so adjust your destination to stay at higher elevations and there are almost none. When the skeeters die off at the lower elevations (it doesn't take long), move back down there. Easy.

There are a couple of states that have counties bigger than some states, some are twice as big. Cherry County in NB has a ratio of one cow per ten acres, most places it's about ten cows to acre. Why people settled out there is beyond me. My grandparents did. Winters suck if it's cold and snowy where ever you live. I grew out of jumping in a big pile of snow and flapping my arms and legs and making a snow angel.

Shudder. I lived in Nebraska for a while. Never, ever again! Can't so the plains. Here in Alaska, we have PARKS bigger than a lot of states! Chugach State Park, my back yard, is 495,204-acres and the third largest park in the US. That is about 2/3 the size of Rhode Island and about 1/3 the size of Delaware right there.

Crbnunit, you ought to go back and visit NB now, they have over 39 trees now! Actually some really good people out there. My Ex spend a Summer out there herding cattle on a huge ranch South of Valentine. That horse of hers could spin on a dime.

I'd like to go back and see the museum at Offutt. What is their mission now that SAC is no longer? Wouldn't mind visiting some of the old Atlas sites in the area either.

BDAB- Come on up! We'll play!
