How about a quick round of "Name That Part"?

Mt Vernon? Is Benny's Burger Barn still there?
Yep, real close to Mt. Vernon. I've only been in this area for a few years, but I've heard that Benny's has been closed for quite a while.

Ok, I tried to get the timing set off.

I got the cam sprocket off and both bolts that hold that plate on the end of the cam were loose! What is that plate called? Did the bolts being loose hurt anything?

The crank sprocket is stuck. I tried to pry it a little, but didn't want to go crazy on it. I have to modify my gear puller if i want to use it to pull it off. Any other ideas?

The plate over the cam is the cam retainer, the bolts are only 1/4"NC so they're not going to be what you'd think as "tight". Torqued properly, they'll only be "snug". The crank sprocket's stuck due to the suction developed with the motor oil coating the parts, it should come off easily once you break the suction.

Thanks baddad, I'll get a gear puller on it and see what I can do. And by "loose", I mean that the bolt had turned out about 3/16" or so... it was about to start rubbing the back of the cam sprocket. The other bolt was backed out some, but not near as much.

No, you're right, it shouldn't be that loose. Just wanted you to know that the torque value isn't much on a 1/4"NC bolt. Won't take much to twist it into. When you go back together with it, use loctite on the threads.

eggzactly, even though my crank sprocket slid right off, the lifters were a different animal. i had to keep rocking them back and forth about 20 times each to break the suction(which reaally sucks when you can only grab it with the very tips of your finners). after the 8th one i was ready to quit lol.

if you havent taken your lifters out yet heres some advice.....theres enough room to stick your fingers in by the cam and push the lifters up while pushing the top down to break the suction.....too bad i found this out when i only had 3 more to go :annoyed:
