Hours for changing water pump on a 98 3.0?

Does anyone know the suggested hours for a shop to change a water pump on a 3.0?

I have coolant gushing from the area of the pump and a high pitch bearing noise on start up. I'm really hoping it's the pump and nothing more.

What kind of hours are recomended for changing this out? What will a shop use as a guide?

I'm trying to figure out if it is worth my time to learn to do it myself. (I'm only slightly mechanically able) Anything I really need to worry about when changing it out?

the hardest part of a water pump change is getting the fan on and off. it is a reverse(laft-hand) thread. other than that, its just a few bolts, a gasket, and some coolant. juast a afternoon of wrenching and a few hundred saved on labor!

So other than the AC bracket there is nothing hidden or PITA with the bolts that will require a special wrench?

I think I'm gonna try this myself. Just hope the autozone has it in stock?!?

What about scraping off the old gasket? PITA? Special scraper needed to avoid scratching the mating surface?

as long as you dont score the crap out of it you can use a regular scraper, the gasket will make up for slight scratching, just dont make dremel size scores and you should be fine. my advice, scrape side to side that way the scrapes go in line w/ one another, not from the port in the block to the outside of the gasket if you will.

On Wp's I always scrape it clean (new plastic putty knife) then sand it bright w/ 120 grit. Get it clean and dry, then a light film of Form-a gasket to seal the gasket to that surface and another light coat on the WP. Can't go wrong.

i use spray on gasket remover, then scrape with a scraper, then i sand lightly with sand paper, never failed me yet lol.

Wow!... needless to say, I'm hiring out my next WP swap to Earl... bit of a long tow though, FL --> NC.

Now if I could just find a stucco/CBS crack-repair crew with Earl's level of diligence!

(Are sure about the 120 grit? I'm thinking more like 220-320?... )
